Welcome to Seville! It's a city that'll take you on a trip through time, a city with thousands of years of history, a deep complex culture and irresistible food! In this exciting travel blog, I'll guide you through an unforgettable day trip to the most emblematic places in the city. From the paved streets to historic churches and authentic flavors, Sevilla has a lot to offer.
In November of 2022 I took an exciting trip to the beautiful region of Andalucía, in southern Spain, and I want to share with you the experience of discovering five cities in seven days: Sevilla, Cádiz, Tarifa, Córdoba, and finally, Granada. It turned out that November is the perfect time to visit this region. The weather was nice, with a few showers here and there but warm temperatures with the extra advantage of there being less tourists than during the high season.
We started early at the Real Alcázar, a palace that has been witness to centuries of history. It was built in the 10th century and combines Islamic architecture with gothic and renaissance elements. The exuberant gardens and intricate patios tell the stories of the kings and queens that mark Spain's history.
Our next stop was the Cathedral of Seville, the biggest Gothic cathedral in the world. But the cathedral hides a secret: it was built over foundations of a mosque, which reflects the transformation of the from a Muslim center to a bastion of Christianity. In fact, La Giralda, its bell tower, was the minaret of the mosque and now offers stunning panoramic views of the city.

Having our minds full of ideas after our immersion in history, we headed to Calle Mateos Gago to have lunch. This street, which is surrounded by buildings from bygone centuries, is the ideal place to enjoy authentic Sevillian food. Try the "tapas" and "salmorejo", a cold tomato soup that will leave you floored
We continued with a visit to the Archive of the Indies, which hosts more than 43,000 documents related to the exploration and colonization of the Americas.
Interesting fact: Seville was a key port during the colonization of the Americas and these documents narrate the challenges and triumphs of European expansion.
After our visit we went to a local cake shop to try the tortas de aceite, crunchy and flaky sweets made from flour. While we savored these delicacies we reflected on how Sevillian gastronomy reflects its multicultural history.
The Plaza of Spain offered us its incredible architecture. Covered with painted-tiles that adorn the handrails and columns, this plaza is a tribute to the beautiful artisanal tradition of Andalucía. As a pleasant surprise during our tour of the plaza we came upon Sevillan musicians who amazed us with passionate Flamenco performance.

To finish our day we went to the pier next to the Guadalquivir River. This river has been important for the history of Sevilla, from the Roman era up until the colonization of the Americas. While we contemplated the sunset, we reflected about how the river has been witness to the ups and downs of the city.
From the palaces and cathedrals to the passion of flamenco and the serenity of the river, each moment had been an opportunity to immerse ourselves in the rich history of this city.
