Privacy and cookies
Who we are
Become Fluent Language Services LLC runs becomefluent.net (this site) and app.becomefluent.net (the student app). Questions about this page: [email protected].
Analytics cookies (only if you accept)
If you are in the United States, we use analytics cookies by default and you can opt out at any time with the link below, or by sending a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser, which we honor. Everywhere else, a banner asks whether we may use analytics cookies before anything is set. If you accept or do not opt out, we load Google Analytics 4 from Google LLC. It sets cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) and records which pages you view, how long you stay, the site or campaign link you came from, your approximate location (country and city, taken from your IP address), and your browser, device and language. We use this to understand what brings people to Become Fluent and to improve our pages and lessons. Google Analytics receives your IP address and may process data in the United States. See how Google uses data from sites that use its services.
If you decline or opt out, Google Analytics is never loaded and no analytics cookies are set. The site and app work the same either way.
Choice cookie
We store your banner answer in a cookie named bf_consent, shared between becomefluent.net and app.becomefluent.net, for about six months. It holds only the words "granted" or "denied".

Cookieless measurement
We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics on this site and Vercel Web Analytics in the app. These count page views without setting cookies or following you across sites.
Student accounts
If you create an account in the app, we store your email address, the progress and activity you generate (such as lessons, vocabulary, homework and notes), and the settings you choose. We use this to run your lessons and homework. Account data is stored with our database and sign-in provider, Supabase. Signing in uses cookies or local storage that are strictly necessary for the app to work, so they do not depend on the banner. Live lessons take place on Zoom, and the practice-partner video calls in the app use Daily. Student account data is deleted once a student finishes their course. Analytics data in Google Analytics is kept for 14 months.
Contacting us
If you email us or book a trial lesson, we use your details only to reply and to arrange lessons. There is no booking form: the trial-lesson button opens an email to us, and we keep those emails only as long as needed to arrange and teach lessons.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you, and withdraw cookie consent at any time using the link above. If you are in the EU or UK you may also object to or restrict processing and complain to your data protection authority. California residents have similar rights to know, delete and opt out of sale or sharing; we do not sell personal data. Email us at the address above and we will respond promptly. Account holders can delete their account in the app settings.
Changes
If we change this page we will update the date at the top.
